National Open University of Nigeria

Regarded as the largest institution with campuses scattered all over the country, National Open University of Nigeria [NOUN] is said to be the very first of its kind in the Western part of Africa. The institution has well over 150,000 students with a total of 45 study centers at strategic locations across the country, including in prisons where inmates can study and earn degrees.

The University came into existence in the year 1983 under the regime of Alhaji Shehu Shagari and was suspended in 1984 by the federal military government that later came into power. However, it was re-established in 2002 by the civilian regime of Chief Olusegun Obasanjo as a Federal Open and Distant Learning [ODL] Institution.
