The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) was established by Act of Parliament No. 15 of 1965 to: 1. Determine what standards of knowledge and skill are to be attained by persons seeking to become members of the accountancy profession and to raise those standards from time to time as circumstances may permit; 2. Secure in accordance with the provision of the Act, the establishment and maintenance of the registers of fellows, associates and registered accountants entitled to practice as accountants and auditors and to publish from time to time a list of those persons; 3. Perform, through the Council of the Institute, all other functions conferred on it by the Act. As the foremost professional accounting body in the West African sub-region, in 1982, ICAN initiated and contributed significantly to the formation of the Association of Accounting Bodies in West Africa (ABWA)
Accounting Technicians Scheme West
Africa (ATSWA) Examination
The examination is meant for registered students of the Institute that
have been given Registration Numbers and completed the exemption processes if
Candidates are expected to check and print their Examination/Financial
Status on www.icanig.org or www.ican-ngr.org/atswa-status before payment for
pin vouchers or payment through Verve/Master/Visa ATM card/Pay direct. The printed copy should be presented to the
bank officer to obtain teller for an appropriate pin voucher.
Candidates should then obtain Examination Pin Vouchers from First Bank,
Ecobank, Union Bank and Access bank
The amount for the Pin Vouchers or Verve/Master/Visa ATM Card/Pay Direct
must tally with the amount on your Examination/Financial Status report.
Candidates should access The ICAN website www.icanexamsonline.org/ats and
Click on Diet Examination Application Form if enrolment is by pin voucher while
you click the link from your Examination/Financial Status if by,
Verve/Master/Visa ATM card/Pay direct.
Candidates should then enter their STUDENT REGISTRATION NUMBER, PIN
NUMBER and SERIAL NUMBER.

Candidates should visit the ICAN website three days after online
submission of the examination form to confirm their enrolment.
Candidates should finally proceed to the ICAN District Society or liaison
officers (displayed on ICAN’s website www.icanig.org nearest to them with a
copy of the completed online Examination form for the collection of a copy of
the Insight and Study Packs. Lagos Center candidates should collect their
copies from the ICAN office at 82, Murtala Mohammed Way (opposite Denton Police
Station) Ebute-Metta Lagos.
ICAN Professional Examinations
Candidates are to pay seven
thousand Naira ((7000) (bank charges not included)) professional examination
registration fee via the pay direct platform at any commercial bank in Nigeria
Candidates should then proceed
with registration at the website address indicated on the pay direct receipt
obtained at the bank after payment.
Candidates should ensure that the
online form is duly completed. A coloured passport photograph should be scanned
and attached electronically to the application forms
Candidates are required to print
out a copy of the completed application form and append their signature
Candidates are required to get a
chartered accountant as your referee/sponsor and provide his/her membership
number, name and phone number. The printed copy of the completed application
form and the photocopies of your credentials should be taken to your
referee/sponsor for certification.
Candidates using ATSWA result
should pay a sum of twenty-three thousand five hundred naira (23,500) being the
cost of induction/conference and attach the photocopy of the receipt to the

recognized institution approved by the ICAN Council

Bachelor's Degree/Higher National
Diploma of any accredited University/Polytechnic or other qualifications
approved by the ICAN Council.
Minimum Entry Requirement :
Five (5) credit passes in any subject including English Language and Mathematics in the West Africa School Certificate Examination, General Certificate of Education or Senior School Certificate of Education, NECO equivalent not more than two sittings or NABTEB.
Ordinary National Diploma of any Polytechnic recognised by the Council of the Institute
National Certificate in Education (NCE) from any College of Education
