The Institute of Certified Geographers of Nigeria was founded in December 2006 in Kaduna, the National Headquarters under the leadership of the DG/CEO. The first induction/seminar of the Institute was held on 8th November, 2008, at the National Library, Bida Road, Kaduna, the ancient city of crocodiles. The body was established to regulate the practice of geographers in Nigeria and promote high ethical standards in the profession. The Institute of Certified Geographers of Nigeria is established under Act 1, Cap 59 of 1990. It has also has the recognition and accent of the Federal Ministry of Education as Professional and Consulting Institute in Nigeria.
Candidates who have
met the basic requirements to apply for the ICGN examinations should visit the
physical address of the institute and obtain the certification examination
The application forms
should be completed and returned to the institute with the bank teller as proof
of payment for the examinations.
Where application for the
professional programme requires
transcripts from the candidate’s previous institutions/universities,
transcripts can be ordered from any school in Nigeria and sent to the
certifying institution via the Electronic Transcript Exchange of Nigeria

Candidate must possess a National
Diploma, Higher National Diploma, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Education, Master
of Science or a Doctorate Degree in
Geography, Urban and Regional Planning, Surveying, Cartography, Environmental
Science, Geology, Oceanography, Climatology and Meteorology, Estate Management,
Human Ecology, Photogrammetry, Resource Management, Disaster Management.
